The internet is a wonderful resource for teachers! In today's talk I can only hope to give you an overview of what's out there - the tip of the iceberg. It would take hours, days, years! to share all the ways in which a teacher can take advantage of these resources, and as soon as I think that I've found the most useful or exciting ones, someone comes up with a new one.
Hopefully, I'll be able to whet your appetite and maybe we can continue the exploration either in school or even on-line.
There are so many different ways to apply the benefits of the internet to education. I'm going to touch on three different ways that educators can make use of it.
Networking with other Teachers There are many sites where teachers come together to form a community based on shared interests in different topics in education. Teachers and administrators use these sites to brainstorm ideas, discuss issues and share resources. Click on this link for some of my favourite sites.
Tools to Enhance Lessons and Improve Assessments Teachers can find specialized lesson plans for their area of interest, rubric generators, organizers and so much more on a variety of sites, many which are completely free. Here are some sites that you may want to explore.
Tools that Students can use to Enhance and Differentiate Many students are already technological savy and they enjoy using new ways of communicating. Why not incorporate these new tools into your lessons? Equally important, universities and colleges expect students to be technologically savy. They are required to work collaboratively over the internet and to use advanced school management systems. Will our students be prepared?
